"Camera Austria is dedicated to the artistic, theoretical, scientific and curatorial exploration of photography in the context of contemporary art, media and social developments. From the beginning, it was an important prerequisite for our work in the field of photography that Camera Austria was not founded as a publishing project, nor was it developed in the context of an institution propagating the arts, but is based on the initiative of artists. The exhibition program started in 1975, was expanded in 1979 to include annual symposiums, and led in 1980 to the publication of the quarterly bilingual magazine Camera Austria International (German/English). Today Camera Austria is the most important interface between photography, art, and society in Austria."
